Hello there, I’m 16 I stand 5ft 8″ tall and I’m 10 stone 2, I was just wondering how to make sure I can get that last layers of fat from my upper body off! any tips would be very useful,
many thanks!
Connor (:
Hi Connor,
The body has a specific order when fat is being stripped off. For example you might lose fat off your legs first, face and then your upper body. This is different for each individual and is dependent on genetics the same for putting it on.
The best way to do this is to look at it through two methods:
1. Diet- This is fundamental. Have a look at what you are eating, is it quality? Are they nutrient dense wholefoods or foods with empty calories which leave you hungry again after an hour. Most people can have huge improvements in their body composition by just looking at what they eat. Do not worry about counting calories!
2. Training- For fat loss use a high intensity interval method. This means you are working as hard and fast as possible for an allotted time then you get a rest. You will be working for a much shorter time frame than you would for other aerobic exercises but will work a whole lot harder, get stronger at the same time and not lose muscle mass. Set yourself either a time goal or a high rep goal work to that then take a short break and then go again you will see much quicker results with this than any aerobic exercise.
Try this out:
60 meter Hill sprint. Walk back down and then sprint again. Repeat 10 times.

Hi,
I don’t have much time to train probably about once or twice a week but want to get stronger. Could you give me an idea of what I should do on those days and a few lifts I could focus on?
Thanks
Hi Steve
For ‘general’ strength you cannot beat the core lifts (Deadlift, squat, Bench Press/Dips and Pull Ups).
However if you don’t have access to a gym you can build a very good base level of stength at home with Pull ups, Bodyweight Rows, 1 Leg Squats, Push Ups and Handstand Push Ups.

Good evening raw performance,
Im really looking to trim down my waist and stomach and to build up general fitness, i train once a week at football which is fairly intense and have a game on a sunday… what other activities do u believe i should take up in between them? i generally eat well but is it really all about fruits and salads etc???!!
thanks for your time
Hi Andy
Thanks for the message, to burn fat you need to strength train and perform intense conditioning.
As you are already doing 2 days of football (which is essentially interval training) I would recommend 2 strength days, you could split this to one lower body day & 1 upper body day or 2 full body strength sessions working on different strength qualities ie explosive, endurance etc.
As for food, you do need to get your fair share of fruits and veggies, but don’t forget about good quality carbohydrates and protein to fuel your workouts!

Hi
My name is Steven Terry and I am a fully qualified level 3 personal trainer and nutritionlist based in Kent. I’ve always had a passion for helping clients towards any goal and take a keen interest in helping to improve athletes. I want to become a strength and conditioning coach and was wondering if you could give me some advice as to how to go about it. Would i need to do a sports science degree at uni or will my current qualification be enough with an extra qualification in S&C??
Any advice would be a huge help
Thanks
Steve Terry
Hi Steven
You do not need a Sports science degree, but it won’t hurt. The UKSCA is a good start, but other than that, read as much as possible from knowledgeable guys such as Mike Boyle, Eric Cressey etc and coach as much as possible! Experience and enthusiasm is worth it’s weight in gold.
Where in Kent are you? email me at dan@rawperformance.co.uk if you want anymore info!
